Merseyside Derby Predictions

Updated: Mar 3, 2019

On the eve of the 234th Merseyside derby, the team at Across The Park reached out to ex pro's, media experts, friends of the show and a host of local boxers for their predictions!

Colin Harvey (Everton legend!) - "1-1 with Gylfi Sigurdsson scoring."

Mel Harvey (Colin's daughter and childhood Evertonian) - "My heart says Everton (always!) my head says Liverpool so I’ll take a 2-2 with DCL knocking in one at the Street End and a Digne free kick. Don’t care who scores for them"

Ste 'Swifty' Smith (Merseyside Boxer and Liverpool fan) - "3-1 Liverpool with Salah scoring first."

Danny Cadamarteri (Former Everton Striker) - "2-2. I think Everton got a good result against Cardiff which come at a good time confidence wise. I can see both teams scoring goals."

Jeff Goulding (Author and writer for "This is Anfield") - "I think Everton's defence will be vulnerable. Our front three will get lots of chances and with our fullback's delivery from wide areas and set-pieces, we should get some joy. Sigurdsson is a threat but our defense is solid enough, so I'm going 2-0 Liverpool."

Callum "Mundo" Smith (Merseyside Boxer and Liverpool fan)- "I'm gonna say 2-0 Liverpool with Salah getting on the scoresheet!"

Terry Phelan (Former Everton Full back) - "I do believe Liverpool are in a far better position than Everton playing wise ... if Everton can contain Liverpool front 3 I then think it could be very interesting ... I would love to see Everton win this one as it could do a great favour for Man city. I believe Liverpool may just nick this one 2-1."

Tony Warner (Former Liverpool Goalkeeper) - “2-0 to Liverpool. I just think Liverpool will be too strong going forward for Everton to contain”

David Thompson (Former Liverpool Midfielder) - “It’s going to be very tight I can see fireworks possibly a red card and loads of yellows a scrappy 1-0 to the reds would be awesome 😎👍

Jon Paul Kissock (Ex Everton player) - "Derby's are always close with the atmosphere and with it being at goodison and the support Everton get. I think Liverpool looked really good mid week , gonna go 1-1 , heart never ruled me head by the way" 👀 😂

Gary Lewis (Liverpool fan and former LFC Academy coach) - "I think it will be 1-1, Liverpool will score first but I think a late late equaliser from Everton will tie it up."

Alan Myers (Football journalist and former Everton Head of Communications) - “I won’t watch, I won’t listen, I will cut off all communication strands for two hours on Sunday, I will accept the result but I’m hoping for a last minute 1-0 win for the Blues! (Walcott)"

George Sephton (Liverpool FC stadium announcer) - “I’m really struggling to remember a Merseyside Derby with so much riding on it! Liverpool have got to win and win well to make up the goal difference advantage City currently have and I think they will; 4-0”

Lee Carsley (Former Everton midfielder) - "Tough game for Everton! I'm gonna go with 1-1!".

Derry Matthews (Merseyside boxer and Liverpool fan) - I think this is gonna be a tasty one and I fancy a few sendings off- 3!! I’m gonna go for a 3-1 Liverpool win

Matt Jones (Radio City Talk Football presenter/

DJ) - “Everton 1-2 Liverpool. This should be a fascinating game in an electric atmosphere, and a lot depends on how the visitors can handle that. They should be fine, given the hot contests they’ve played in over the last 18 months, and although Everton will raise their game, I think Liverpool will edge it, especially after how they demolished Watford in midweek“

Prediction summary; Only one of our panel have gone for Everton to win (Alan Myers), six have sat on the fence and gone for a draw, Whilst nine of the panel have gone with the form book predicting Liverpool to win. Please leave your own predictions below and we'll all await 6.15 (ish) on Sunday for the outcome. May the best team win ;-)
